The power of storytelling

Competitive Advantage: Storytelling Connects Us

Storytelling is a powerful tool and a skill that everyone should master. Each of us has a story that we take into the world every day. Stories are part of our daily lives and allow us to form connections with others. Through our interactions with others, storytelling provides us the opportunity to unpack our understanding of the world and creates a bridge to communicate our values and beliefs. You may have the most inspiring story on the block, but you must walk the talk daily to create inspiration. The story you have about your job and how you show up each day is critical to becoming an exceptional leader.

Does Your Story Build Trust & Credibility?

  • Caring
  • Passionate
  • Authentic

Design Thinking & building ideas up

Who can use design thinking?

Whether you work in business, government, education, or nonprofit, design thinking can help you develop revolutionary solutions based on the needs of others.

What are the benefits of using design thinking?

  • Create solutions for unmet needs of customers, clients, students, or users
  • Risk reduction associated with launching new ideas, products, and services
  • Reinforce innovative solutions that are extraordinary, not just temporary
  • Opportunity to view a problem from a different perspective
  • Leverages team building and innovation

"At the heart of all great leadership is empathy, respect, and the desire to move something toward its ideal state—ultimately making the world a better place, even if just for a small subset of people." -Russ Starke

why is empathy important?

“The main tenet of design thinking is empathy for the people you’re trying to design for. Leadership is exactly the same thing – building empathy for the people that you’re entrusted to help.” -David Kelley

The 2019 State of Workplace Empathy Study

  • "CEOs increasingly see empathy as a vital workplace value, but they are struggling to bring it to life. With employees using empathy as a decision point to stay or go, it's more important than ever for leaders to figure it out so they can compete in today's historically challenging labor market."
  • 92% of employees would be more likely to stay with a company if the organization empathized with their needs.
  • 60% would be willing to take less pay if their employer showed empathy, and 78% would leave an employer for equal pay if the other company was empathetic.
  • 77% of employees would be willing to work longer hours for an empathetic employer.

"In today’s workplace, empathy has become expected and must be woven into an organization’s DNA. Without it, organizations are falling behind." -Rae Shanahan

Participants will create a customized framework to listen, learn, and lead.
